A 12-year-old Milwaukee girl was shot early Sunday morning while sitting in her bedroom, police said.

The girl’s mother, Tanaka Brooks, told TNNRaw News Tamishay Washington was shot in the right knee and the hand.

She was treated and expected to survive.

Brooks said Tamishay loves to dance, and it’s unclear how this injury will hinder her dancing.

Milwaukee police said the girl was sitting on her bed when bullets entered the room and struck her.

Officers found bullet casings in the street, but have not yet made any arrests.

Brooks said she thinks her family was targeted.

Police have not said what led to the shooting.
