PLAINS TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WOLF) — UPDATE (2/2/21): The Luzerne County D.A.’s Office has released more information regarding yesterday’s shooting in Plains Twp.

According to the D.A., James and Lisa Goy were clearing snow from their cars while Jeffrey Spaide was shoveling his driveway.

Reports say the Goys were throwing snow onto Spaide’s property when he asked them to stop. This allegedly sparked a heated exchange among the Goys and Spaide.

During the exchange, Goy allegedly threw an implement he was using to clear snow from his car, approached Spaide, and cocked his fist at him.

That’s when Spaide allegedly went inside the house while the Goys yelled at him with expletives and both parties went back and forth with name calling.

The D.A.’s office says Mr. Goy then threatened Spaide and made obscene gestures at him. Seconds later, Spaide came back outside allegedly holding a handgun.

The Goys reportedly acknowledged that he had a handgun and continued shouting names at him from the middle of the street.

When Spaide opened fire, the Goys allegedly did not react until multiple shots went off and both were eventually struck.

The D.A.’s office goes on to explain that Spaide fired multiple rounds at close range and returned inside his house. Spaide then allegedly returned with another weapon and fired upon both of the injured Goys.

Spaide then went back inside and was seen by witnesses pacing in a window. As police approached, another gunshot was heard which is believed to have been the self-inflicted shot that killed Spaide.

Three people are dead following a dispute over snow removal in Luzerne County today.

“It’s indescribable,” said neighbor Tyler Fisch.

Tyler Fisch is in disbelief as he returns to his Plains Township home, to find out two of his neighbors are gone. He had just moved into the neighborhood.

“It’s pretty scary seeing it you know right next to you, so coming home to this. It’s an odd feeling for everyone,” said Fisch.

Police say 50 year-old James Goy and 48-year-old Lisa Goy were shot and killed by their neighbor 47-year-old Jeffrey Spaide, following an argument over shoveling snow.

According to investigators, Spaide then took his own life when police arrived.

“The Plains Township Police responded immediately. It’s currently under investigation,” said Sam Sanguedolce, Luzerne County First Assistant District Attorney.

Neighbors who did not want to appear on camera tell us they heard anywhere from 8 to 12 shots.

One man said he was out shoveling snow in his driveway, when he dialed 911 as he watched it all happen in front of him.

“It’s a quiet Street, we never really have any problems here,” said Plains Township Police Chief Dale Binker.

Police say the Goy’s were both found dead when they arrived.

“One is in the middle of the street. The other is in between two parked cars. That is a husband and wife,” said Sanguedolce.

Investigators say their 15-year-old autistic son, who’s now being cared for by his grandparents, was inside their home at the time.

“It’s crazy what happens when one thing rolls into another, so hopefully there’s nothing else like this around here,” said Fisch.

Police say both a handgun and a long gun were recovered at the scene. There is still no word on how they were obtained.

Police say Spaide lived in his home on his own. We’re told there is no danger to the public at this time.
