Grandmother shot, killed granddaughter in Buckeye: police
Police say that 71-year-old Debra Greene-Davis shot her 31-year-old Larkeya Elliott granddaughter in an attempt to stop a fight between Elliott and her mother.
BUCKEYE, Ariz. – A woman who allegedly shot and killed her granddaughter on Sunday afternoon in Buckeye has been taken into custody.
Davis then dialed 911 for help, and investigators say that was when the granddaughter, identified as 31-year-old Larkeya Lashawn Elliott, punched Davis in an attempt to take the phone away. Elliot’s moth then grabbed her by the hair, and the two continued to tussle some more.
Officers said Davis then took out a handgun and shot Elliot in the back. Elliott died before she was transported to a hospital.
“We don’t like to see this happen, we hate to see this happen, but our officers are out there, they’re highly trained, and they’re going to do whatever they can to save lives when something like this does occur,” said Carissa Planalp with Buckeye Police.
The victim, according to officials with the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation and Reentry, worked as a correction officer from Oct. 14, 2019 to Aug. 14, 2020. During her time with ADCRR, she was assigned to Lewis State Prison.
