A news anchor has landed himself in hot water after a half-naked woman was spotted in the background of a live cross from his home.

Eagle-eyed viewers noticed the lady in the background of Alfonso Merlos’ video was not the same person he was thought to be dating.

The clip of his live video call was posted to a Spanish YouTube channel called Estado de Alarma.

The journalist appears not to notice the woman in the background, continuing his live video chat as normal.

Merlos had been in a relationship with Marta Lopez from Spain’s Big Brother – although she was not the scantily clad lady behind him.

Local media 20 Minutos reported the woman in the background was actually fellow journalist Alexia Rivas, who is also from Spain.

After days of silence, Merlos made an appearance on The Ana Rosa Show to apologise for his actions.

He also insists he wasn’t still with Lopez when the video was shot.

“I have no problem asking for forgiveness, although my goal was not to harm someone else,” he said.

According to Spanish media, Lopez disagreed with his comments and said they were together at the time of filming.

She also called her former lover’s behaviour “shameful”.

Rivas also commented on the clip to Socialite, saying he told her Rivas was single, and adding that they had been seeing each other for three weeks.
