Two women have been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a man at a Brookhaven hotel earlier this month, officials said Tuesday.

Shauntae Laquana Taylor, 27, and Jessica Marie Smith, 25, face murder charges following the death of 28-year-old Miguel Angel Munoz at the Courtyard by Marriott hotel in the Executive Park area, according to a statement from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.

Brookhaven police said the women were seen on surveillance video entering the hotel before Munoz’s body was found. Brookhaven police previously said the two women were persons of interest in the case and asked the public to help identify them.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office said Taylor was arrested at a hotel in College Park on Tuesday. Brookhaven police later sent out a statement that both women had been arrested in connection with Munoz’s death. Smith, of Duluth, was arrested in Gwinnett County and booked into jail there, police said.

Taylor allegedly pistol-whipped and shot Munoz at the hotel, the sheriff’s office said.

The police department declined to release details about a possible motive in the case, or the suspects’ relationship to Munoz.

“Brookhaven Police credit multiple tips received in response to news media coverage of this incident with helping investigators identify and apprehend both Taylor and Smith,” the department said in a statement.

The women were believed to have gone into the hotel room before Munoz was shot and killed, police said at a press conference last week.

Based on surveillance footage, investigators believe Munoz was killed between 5:30 and 6 a.m. Sept. 4, police said.

According to a police incident report released by Brookhaven police, investigators found Munoz lying on his back on the floor of the hotel room. A single shell casing was found at the base of the bed. The room was in a state of “somewhat disarray,” police wrote, with clothing and other objects knocked over and onto the floor.
