DALLAS — Star NFL linebacker Von Miller is accused of assaulting his pregnant girlfriend at their high-rise apartment in Dallas this week, according to multiple police sources, police officials and court documents obtained by WFAA on Thursday.
Dallas police officials confirmed that a warrant for a third-degree felony charge of assaulting a pregnant person had been issued for Miller, a 34-year-old DeSoto native who plays for the Buffalo Bills.
Glenn Heights Police Chief Nick Bristow confirmed to WFAA that Miller turned himself in to the Glenn Heights Police Department at around 3 p.m. Thursday afternoon. Miller was then taken to the DeSoto Police Department jail to be processed, where he almost immediately posted a $5,000 bond and was released from custody.
WFAA reached out to the office of the attorney who is believed to be representing Miller, but the attorney was not immediately available for comment.
Miller’s employer, the Buffalo Bills, released the following statement on the allegations: “This morning, we were made aware of an incident involving Von Miller. We are in the process of gathering more information and will have no further comment at this point.”
Police said that officers responded at 11 a.m. Wednesday to a “major disturbance” call in the 3100 block of North Harwood in the Uptown area of Dallas.
Officers arrived and found Miller’s longtime girlfriend with “minor abrasions” on her left hand and bruising on her neck — “injuries consistent with applied pressure to the neck,” according to an arrest warrant affidavit obtained by WFAA.
Officers learned that Miller and the alleged victim were in an argument when Miller allegedly assaulted her, police said.
An arrest warrant affidavit said police learned that Miller and his girlfriend were arguing in their bedroom because she didn’t want to travel on her birthday this week.
The affidavit said the alleged victim went from the bedroom to the office of the home and slammed the door out of anger. Miller then became “visibly angry,” the affidavit said. He went into the office and yelled at his girlfriend to “get out” of the apartment, according to the affidavit.
The affidavit said the girlfriend “attempted to comply” with Miller’s request to leave the home, but wanted to gather some items before leaving. As she did this, the affidavit said, Miller “began to shove and push her, all while telling her to leave from the unit.”
The affidavit said Miller then began trying to film his girlfriend on his phone, “all while continuing to push and shove” her out of the home.
The girlfriend kept yelling, “Stop! I’m pregnant!” according to the affidavit, but Miller allegedly kept pushing her.
The affidavit said Miller then “began applying pressure around the [girlfriend’s] neck for 3 to 5 seconds before letting go.”
The girlfriend tried to gather her belongings, but Miller grabbed her phone, threw her laptop on the floor and stomped on it, the affidavit said.
When she tried to get her laptop from the floor, Miller “pulled her by her hair, ultimately pulling a chunk of hair out and causing her to fall to the ground,” the affidavit said.
At this point, according the the affidavit, the girlfriend began filming the incident on her phone own phone, which she put in her pocket. The affidavit said Miller then grabbed her and pushed her onto the couch, again placing pressure around her neck with both hands.
The girlfriend then got up and told Miller she was going to call police, per the affidavit. At that point, the affidavit said, Miller then left the home.
Miller was gone by the time officers arrived on the scene, police said.
His girlfriend told officers that she is six weeks pregnant, according to the affidavit. She was treated for minor injuries at the scene, and officers then took her to headquarters for a full interview about what happened, the affidavit stated.
WFAA obtained a recording of the 911 call the girlfriend placed.
“My boyfriend is choking and hitting me… I have bruises all over me,” she can be heard saying. “My hair is out.”
Asked by the 911 dispatcher if her boyfriend was still with her, the girlfriend said, “He just stormed out.”
“I don’t know,” she said when asked by the dispatcher if she needed paramedics. “He pulled my hair out. I have, like, some blood on me — but not, like… yeah, I don’t know.”
Reached by text message by WFAA, Miller’s girlfriend downplayed the incident.
“We’re fine,” she wrote. “Things were blown way out of context. This is actually outrageous!”
She called the incident “a huge misunderstanding” and described it as “a verbal disagreement.”
“No one assaulted anyone,” she texted. “This is insane. And sad.”
Miller, a DeSoto native, is in his second season with the NFL’s Buffalo Bills, who are on a bye and not playing any games this week.
Miller previously played for the Los Angeles Rams in 2021, and for the Denver Broncos from 2011 to 2021.
Miller was a star in Denver, where he earned three first-team All-Pro selections and helped lead the Broncos to a Super Bowl victory in 2015.
Miller was traded to the Rams during the 2021 season, and helped Los Angeles to a Super Bowl victory that season.
Miller played college football at Texas A&M.
In 2021, Miller was under investigation by the Parker, Colo., police department, but the 18th Judicial District, the district attorney’s office for the city, declined to move forward with charges against Miller. Details surrounding the investigation were not disclosed by authorities, and Miller remained on the Broncos team for that upcoming season.
