The verdict is now in, Theodore Wafer of Detroit Michigan has been found guilty of second degree murder in the shooting death of Ms. Renisha McBride on the night of Nov 2nd 2013!  On this nite, Wafer 55, claims that he feared for his life with the drunk Mcbride came knocking on his door at 4am seeking help!

McBride who was only 19 at the time of her death had no prior incidences with the law and by most accounts was a good person so what would have brought her to Wafers home that nite and would would make him make such a fateful decision?  These questions we may never have the answer too but there are a few things that I would like all of you, especially parents of teens and the teens themselves, to take away from this tragic story. Take a look!

Wafer sat on the stand and cried as he took to help his own defense but honestly he made himself look cold and self serving.  I dont know if he should cry or not but to cry on the stand after you so brazenly took someones life is a bit of a stretch to me.  It is very hard for me to understand how a man can just shoot through a door yet claim that he feared for his life when the best course of action would have been to just call 9-1-1 while holding your gun to the door.

Now this does not take away responsibility from the teen but the world needs to have order and in this case more than one thing can be true!  The girls punishment was death and the killers punishment should be what? Read the rest and tell me what you think should be his sentence for murdering an an armed teen?

Do you think a verdict like this will make it harder for you to protect your home because lets be honest, usual home invasions will start with a simple knock on the door.  Should people be allowed to approach your property at all times of the night or day and all you can do is wait to see what they will do to you before you act?  There are a lot of things in this story which will probably be brought up on appeal but will indeed affect how people and strangers get viewed when it ends in violence.

Also, should this have been a murder case and not manslaughter?  To be honest, how much do you think the outcome of this verdict came from the lack of a verdict in the Zimmerman case?

The Detroit man charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter and weapons felony firearm for killing a 19-year-old woman on his porch was found guilty on all counts Thursday.

Theodore Wafer, 55, shot Renisha McBride on Nov. 2 when she knocked on his doors after a car crash, where it was determined that she had been drinking.

McBride’s mother, Monica McBride, shook back and forth after the verdict was read, while some of her other family members wept. “She was a beautiful young lady. She had things going for her,” McBride’s father, Walter Simmons, said. The prosecutors “had the facts, they had the evidence, they did their job, and they did it well. And we appreciate it.”

The jury of seven women and five men deliberated for less than ten hours over two days after closing arguments were heard Wednesday. The prosecution argued that Wafer fired his shotgun because he was angry and looking for a confrontation. The defense contended that the homeowner feared for his life when he heard pounding on his doors in the middle of the night. McBride’s family has maintained that the teen was looking for help after the crash. “It was senseless, all he had to do was call 911,” Monica McBride said Thursday.

The trial drew comparisons to the George Zimmerman-Trayvon Martin case because Wafer is white and McBride was black, but the subject of race was rarely broached in the courtroom. Wafer’s defense lawyer said Wednesday that her client was far from a racist and that he didn’t know the race of the person he shot. When asked whether he thought race played a part, Simmons said, “I’m not going to say that. That could have been anybody’s kid.”

Wafer will be sentenced Aug. 25. He faces life in prison with the possibility of parole.

maybe this will teach a few people to be less trigger happy… good to see that sometimes the law gets upheld and justice is served… he was under no threat even if he thought he was… the right thing to do would have been like you said to dial 911 and wait to see if someone broke in… the second that door was broken open he would have been fully justified to pull the trigger… but shooting a person through a closed door just because your scared is fucked up… and as it turns out illegal [who’d have guessed?] he may be upset, it may have been a “mistake” but he got what he deserved… murder is murder plain and simple

I dunno, he stated that he had been feeling unsafe in his own home..I hate to see a young women lose her life but who was really in the wrong? I think at the very least they were both wrong, her mistake cost her her life, its not that uncommon. I just dont think it makes him a monster is all

So glad the family did not pull the race card. It rarely has a positive impact on the outcome of a trial like this. Stick to the facts and build a strong case there instead of flaring up emotional responses.

Even though he found guilty, you can’t neglect the fact she was underage drinking, driving while drunk, crashed her car in a neighbor where she wasn’t familiar with, and she played a part in own death by banging on strangers’ door where she had no idea who was on the other side of that door which led to her death.

When has knocking on someone door asking for help a mistake? I am glad to hear this news because my first reaction if I wreck my car is to go to the nearest house and knock on the door looking for help. Now I know knocking on someones door is a mistake and Liable to get me shot.

Hey Mr. Sotomayor I gotta tell you im a big fan of your show first of all!
Im a white man from the Detroit Metro area and I remember this story when it first happend! Truthfully I think its a sad story for all parties involved. After thirty years living in the same area (outside my time in the military) I am moving out of this state because its no longer safe near my home or in the city I love. I appreciate your message
because it is the truth! Black, white, brown green or any other shade of color we need our younger generations to understand the idea of values. Family values, civic duty ect ect.. I see guys I grew up.with acting like damn fools at 30 YEARS OLD!! Its fucking crazy man, shooting eachother up and fighting over Facebook posts!!Im outta the Detroit area and tried opening my new home up to my loved ones but they want to stay, I fear for them living in a community of people.who no longer give a damn about human life or the consequences or their own actions!!

Much love buddy keep doing your thing!

I didn’t get drunk when i was nineteen let alone drive while drunk. She shouldnt have been on the road while drunk and hi. That part was her fault. She made that choice to do that. I’m not excusing what mr.wafer did. He shouldnt have shot her. Just call the cops call someone. You dont kill her.

I believe that this is a tragedy. A young girl made a mistake and a Middle aged man made a mistake. I dont know if it was race crime. But i do know that on both sides of this it could have been avoided. This crap shouldn’t have happened. She shouldn’t have been out on the roads drunk and hi. And mr. wafer should have called the cops instead of taking action himself.

Sad way to go…..I can understand what the man was thinking…but at the same time you don’t just up and shoot someone unless they are burglarizing your house. I can see it that way. But he just shot her without even seeing who she was. In the end he had to pay for his bad deeds.

I can understand why he purchased the gun, and he acted on his impulses. I’m not saying what he did was right, but I can apprehend his reasoning.

There are more than 2 people at fault here. Her family/friends that let her leave drunk. The young lady for driving drunk & high. And the man for not calling the police and waiting. Dearborn PD would have been there in 3 to 7 mins. Simple.

No race crime. Just crime. A Zombie. Mad at his own situation and said “F@ck it!!!”. I’m not going to become a vic and shot like a dumb ass. Now he has to live with his choice. Just like the young lady and her family/friends.

Who wants to become a victom?? We should wait untill someone kicks our door down? Thats the standard we should live by?? We cannot defend ourselves untill its too late?

If she crashed her car, she was probably looking for help. This is ridiculous overkill.

I understand how her actions contributed to the situation. I am also tired of untrained trigger happy bitches. I understand not wanting to be a prisoner in your own home but, if he could afford to move and just did not. Then screw him a house is not worth your or someone else’s life. You have the right to protect your property and yourself but, at this point there is no way in hell he thinks it was worth it.

Finally some justice. Man changed his story which means he was lying or hiding something. That’s a guilty person. George Zimmerman was a little smarter though. He let his family tell his side of the story in the media instead of him doing it himself. That way he could get feedback from critics and form a story that he could use in court. But he still had help from the jury.

I really don’t have an opinion on this case. I’m scared of my own people so I can only imagine how other races feel about seeing someone that look like me on their porch at 2am. My 1st thought would have been she is part of a crew of kneegrows hiding on the side of the house.

I’ve called 911 on a man that lived down the street who came to use my phn at 1am. The police went off on him. They asked him why did he go past all these homes with husbands & knock on the door of a single woman. He had no explanation but he was not thinking. To this day I think that man was up to no good. I was glad when he got foreclosed on

From what I understand is he lived in Detroit (The D) anybody in from and around Detroit knows anything can happen. He was a dude that wanted to live there, but he had a shotgun for a reason. He said he wasn’t going to be scared in his own home that’s why he had the shotgun. Banging at someone’s door at 4 in the morning, in a “dangerous” city is a bad mix. Hence the results, all it was, a girl was fukdup that night had a wreck and sobered up enough to ask for some help. A scared dude with a shotgun not knowing what was going on outside his door, heard a banging at his front door at an unusual time. For him to say he wasn’t going to cowar in his home he was just the exact opposite. Scared shitless with a shotgun. He didn’t want to kill anyone that night but he had the power of a shotgun, he was too shook to see what was happening before he shot. It’s just all the way fukdup.

Surprised he was convicted… But where were McBride’s “wingmen?” It’s rare that women go out by themselves… Especially if they’re from bad neighborhoods. They usually go out in groups for protection.

Tommy I gotta give you credit. You ask some tough questions in a level-headed way. No winners here, just sad. But honestly, he opened the door and someone who is scared would never opened the door. But yet, its very sad, I would have been scared myself. But really, cock that shotgun, give a warning and call the police.
