DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. –  A mother has been charged after police say she helped her teenage daughter beat up another student at school.

The fight happened last Thursday at Redan High School in DeKalb County.

What the school is saying about the beating that led to a parent’s arrest, on Channel 2 Action News This Morning.

Video posted on social media shows students beating up a sophomore girl and a parent pulling her hair.

“Punching me, hitting me in the back of the head with a cellphone, pulling my hair,” said the student, who did not want to be identified.

She said a group of three people jumped her in the hallway. She said it was the tipping point after being bullied all school year.

“I try to defend myself, but I can’t really handle three people,” the student said.

DeKalb County School District officials said they are aware of the fight involving an adult and said in a statement: “The district will never tolerate altercations of any type on its campuses.”

The victim said she suffered a concussion and some cuts to her head.

School police charged the parent in the video with battery. The victim’s mother said that’s not enough.

“She checks in and then gets to walk around the school? And no security? Where was security when my daughter was getting attacked?” Darlene Smith said.

Smith said she plans to pull her daughter from the school district at the end of the school year.

“These schools need to be held accountable, just as well as the mother,” she said.

The school district declined to release the name of the parent charged or an incident report.
