In the words of Lebron James, Not 1, Not 2, Not 3 nope but what about 4?

Reports are that if Pat Riley and the Miami Heat get their way, they will have just that, 4 of the biggest named players from the same draft on the same team.  It would be like, well it would be like nothing thats ever happened in the history of any sport, EVER!

But wait a minute, what about the NBA Salary Cap?  If it was hard for the Heat to get 3 players under it, how in the hell could they possibly get another max player under the cap?  Well, here is where being creative comes into play

According to ESPN.com’s Brian Windhorst and Marc Stein:

Sources told ESPN.com that Heat officials and the team’s leading players have already started to explore their options for creating sufficient financial flexibility to make an ambitious run at adding New York Knicks scoring machine Carmelo Anthony this summer in free agency.

Yep, that Carmelo Anthony—the one who averaged 27.4 points and 8.1 rebounds this season.

The ESPN rumor is consistent with what USA Today‘s Sam Amick first reported on the subject. Amick explained the financial implications as well, writing:

A Big Four with the Heat (James, Wade, Bosh and Anthony) is possible, but it would require significant pay cuts from all involved. The Heat have about $8 million in payroll for next season if James, Wade and Bosh all opt out. It comes in handy that the salary cap is expected to increase by about $5 million next season to $63.2 million, while the luxury tax threshold is expected to be $77 million.

Now before you get too excited, you must realize that other teams are interested in Anthony and James playing with them as well such as the Los Angeles Lakers and the New York Knicks both hoping that they can get the duo to join forces with their respective clubs.

My dude Stephen A. Smith reported, “Melo wants to play with LeBron James. And, from what I’m being told, LeBron James wants to play with Melo. Assuming circumstances are ideal for them to do so.”

Before any superstar-combining scenario comes to fruition, Anthony must first make a decision about his future with the Knicks. Per Stein:

Anthony has until June 23, essentially one week before the start of free agency, to notify the New York Knicks if he plans to opt in or out of the final year of his current contract, according to sources familiar with the terms of his deal.

The biggest question that we have to ask is would Anthony be willing to take the steep pay cut to play with the current Miami Big 3 because at that point it would literally be all about the ring due to the amount he would be leaving on the table in New York!

Anthony has said that he wants to return to the Knicks, but he also wants to win, per Frank Isola of the New York Daily News:

To be honest, my question at this point would be, how would the big 4 fit together?  Think about it.  The big 3 still looks like it doesnt work at times.  Anthony plays no defense and considering the consistent 100 point games put up against Miami by the Spurs in the playoffs, an extra hole in the dyke won’t hold back the ocean of scoring that other teams would do to them. The offense would also suffer so you would have to ask, do we have enough balls to go around because we all know that Anthony has never met a shot that he didnt like!

I know me as a fan of super teams and dynasties, I will be routing for this to happen.  Then I wish OKC would get another big name and San Antonio so there would be like 4 teams only with a real shot.. lol Yeah yeah I know most dont want that but I do.  The world was better when it was just Russia Vs The USA but most people want parody so we ask the question….

Does having a super-er team help or hurt the NBA?

Well we do know that having the Miami Heat around has actually helped the NBA a lot because it gave them the villain that they sorely needed that they had back with Michael Jordan’s Bulls.  Many people would root the entire year in hopes that the Heat would lose but it would be a must see event every town that they went to.

Many fans of many teams however would know that there team had no shot.

No matter if this happens or not, the internet has been abuzz about it with just talk of the prospect and I feel no different.  If nothing else, the NBA should welcome this type of dialogue because it keeps their sport on the front page longer.  Now if only they could figure out how to make their off season as eventful as the NFL!~T.S.

If this happens any claim that Lebron would have being the greatest player of all time would ILLEGITIMATE with four other former franchise players on the roster around him. Let’s not forget that Jordan had to carry the scoring load EVERY night for the Bulls to work as a unit.

This is hella weak. The dudes don’t understand what legacy is all about. But the dumb dumbs will claim they’re the greatest, when all they did was run to their rivals for a ring. What that says about Melo? Couldn’t get it done on his own, so he had to run to Lebron? And what about Lebron? He proved he could get it done on his own, with Dwade injuries diminished his skills, and Bosh is not the big man they thought he was. But still, why do you want to help these dudes get rings? This is why Jordan is the greatest. He wanted to deny his rivals rings. And he played in a more talented era, and got it done without having a stacked team. This is terrible for the NBA. These dudes wanna not battle each other, but stack the deck, and win, just to say they got rings. It’s not about how you get it, as long as you get it. SMDH.

I’m not for it for the same reason JahRW said below. However, if these young brothers want to play together why won’t one of the rich niggas that wanted to own the Clippers help these guys get their own team? Why keep getting rich while other gain wealth? They are in the position to have it all.
