A man accused of killing a pregnant mother-of-three in a gun-for-hire assassination has issued a shock guilty plea, insisting it was the victim’s husband who ordered the hit.

Joevan Joseph, 21, entered the plea on Monday in relation to the fatal June 2017 shooting of Makeva Jenkins, who was gunned down inside her Boynton Beach home.

Reports at the time suggested that a masked gunman had forced his way into her residence in the middle of the night and shot her at point-blank range in the head while other family members were inside.

Joseph was arrested three months later, with his mother giving detectives a letter titled ‘Game Plan’ in which Joseph is said to have documented getting money and a gun from Makeva’s husband, Euri Jenkins, to carry out the shooting.

Both Joseph and Jenkins faced first-degree murder charges until this week’s surprise guilty plea.ADVERTISING

Now Joseph will get no more than 20 years in prison after agreeing to testify against Jenkins at trial.

Prosecutors have warned, however, that should Joseph’s testimony deviate from the one he gave them to broker the deal, the terms of the agreement will be thrown out, according to Chief Assistant State Attorney Andrienne Ellis.

Euri Jenkins’ attorney, Gregg Lerman, described the arrangement as ‘one of the sweetest deals’ he’s ever seen for a homicide, the Palm Beach Post reported.

He went onto protest his client’s innocence, saying there is ‘little to no evidence’ to suggest Jenkins was involved with his wife’s slaying.

Investigators from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office say that 33-year-old Makeva was fatally shot inside her home on June 29, 2017, after opening her front door of her home to a masked man at 2:00am.

Her death came hours after she penned a Facebook post detailing her journey from homelessness to earning multiple six figure sums in just two years.

After founding The Prime Enterprise group, which is dedicated to helping small business owners, she wrote in the final post that she was ‘in awe of how far,’ her life has come.

Her family was initially worried that the post lead to her death.

‘We overcame being homeless in 2013/2014 to reaching my six figure mark in 2015 to now making multi six figures,’ she wrote.

‘No matter what the road looked like, I followed my heart and stuck with it growing my business.’

At the time she was shot at least two of her three children were in the adjoining room – but they were not hurt. There were also two other adults being held at gunpoint with Makeva, but only she was shot.

Police said the suspect fled in the family’s white Dodge Charger. It was later found abandoned a mile away and police thought Makeva had been the victim of a home invasion murder.

An autopsy later revealed that Makeva was pregnant at the time of her death.

Jenkins failed to attend a press conference in the weeks after his wife’s murder to appeal for information about her killer.

He was arrested in the December of 2017 and charged with first-degree murder, telling a reporter from CBS 12 ‘God will vindicate me,’ when asked if he was responsible for her death.

During a hearing in September, prosecutors revealed the ‘Game plan’ letter written by Joseph, which detailed the hours leading up to the fatal shooting of Makeva.

Witness Dametrius Dale, who was at the home of the morning of the killing, says he had been approached by Jenkins two days before who reportedly asked him if he thought the idea of hiring someone to kill another was crazy.

At first, Jenkins is said to have expressed that he wanted his father killed but later admitted that it was actually his wife he wanted dead, insisting he didn’t love her anymore

Within the same hearing it was revealed by witness Dametrius Dale, who was at the home of the morning of the killing, had been approached by Jenkins two days before who reportedly asked him if he thought the idea of hiring someone to kill another was crazy.

At first, Jenkins is said to have expressed that he wanted his father killed but later admitted that it was actually his wife he wanted dead, insisting he didn’t love her anymore.

The day before the shooting, Dale said he went over to the home with his childhood friend Joseph and that’s how Jenkins and the apparent gun-for-hire met.

During the early morning of June 29, Dale said Joseph asked him to show him how to get to the Jenkins’ home.

Originally Dale was asked to drive ahead of Joseph, but he later pulled over in his own vehicle and got in the passenger seat alongside Dale.

When Dale refused to drive him the rest of the way, Joseph apparently pulled a gun on the soon-to-be witness and ordered him to continue to the home.

Once they arrived, Joseph and Jenkins are said to have spoken briefly, then Dale, Euri Jenkins and Makeva Jenkins’ brother went into the garage, where Jenkins insisted on giving his brother-in-law a haircut, according to Dale’s claims.

Suddenly, an armed and masked man — who Dale said he recognized to be Joseph by his build, clothes and voice — told them all to get out of the home.

Moments later, Makeva Jenkins was shot in the head and the masked man ran away.

On Jul 5, 2017, six days after his wife was killed, Jenkins called up an insurance company checking on a $500,000 policy that had been taken out in Makeva’s name.

However he was confirmed not to be a beneficiary of the policy, police say.
