Nationwide search for Georgia teen and her 2 children
MONROE, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) – There are big concerns about the safety of two babies and their 16-year-old mother who vanished from a foster home near Monroe.
At 16 years young, Kenyah Edwards to many might seem like a baby herself. Walton County Sheriff investigators are concerned about her babies, her 1-year-old daughter Shariah and son, 2-year-old Kensharri.
“We’re concerned with the juveniles, the babies simply because they are so young and make sure that the mom and that the babies have care,” said Captain Kirk McElroy with the Walton County Sheriff’s Office
They all disappeared three days before Christmas from their foster home near Monroe.
Investigators said damage to siding indicates Kenyah slipped out a window and down a garage.
The Walton County Sheriff’s Office is working with the GBI, FBI, and with authorities in Newton County and Brooklyn, New York locations where Kenyah Edwards has family.
Adding to their worries, Kenyah doesn’t drive or have a license.
“We’ve checked with friends and family that we are aware of to see if anyone had helped her and that’s all turned into dead ends, pretty much,” said Captain McLeroy.
Kenyah and her children were placed in foster care together by Georgia’s Department of Family and Children Services.
DFACS interim director Tom Rawlings wouldn’t discuss the case but did say this.
“We give youth the freedom that youth are supposed to have when they in foster care and try to make it a home-like an environment as possible,” said Rawlings.
DFACS is also working with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to find this vulnerable young mom and her two children
Walton County resident and mother of five Patricia Wimberly worries about the children,
“Them being out there in the wilderness or being homeless or going from place to place and she don’t even know where she is at that could put them in a scary state of mind for a little child,” said Wimberly.
Kenyah is described as being 5’4” tall, about 150 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
Kensharri is described as being 2’6” tall, about 25 pounds, with black hair and black eyes.
Shariah is described as being 2’ tall, about 20 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the young mother and her two children is asked to contact the Walton County Sheriff’s Office 6557 or the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at 800-THE-LOST (843-5678).
