Gates, N.Y. — A Gates police officer is still waiting for blood test results, three and a half months after he was bitten by a suspect who claimed she was HIV positive.

Kenshara Robinson was indicted by a grand jury for assaulting a the officer within a week of the alleged confrontation. Sources claim Robinson told the officer she had HIV and hoped he died after biting him and puncturing his skin.

The officer and the entire police department are now frustrated they still haven’t seen her blood test results.

“When you come upon a situation where you are exposed to something, you want answers and results,” Officer Lance Duffy said. “This has really taken a long time. It’s frustrating to our officer to be thinking, am I sick or am I not sick?”

As a precaution, the officer had to immediately begin powerful antiretroviral medication to ward off HIV. Doctors, not knowing Robsinson’s medical history, said this was the only choice. The officer became ill from the cocktail of medications and was out of work for some time.

“Anyone who is put in that position where there is an exposure and you’re told you have to wait months, that’s crazy,” Duffy continued. “I definitely would like to see legislation put forward that this needs to be brought to the front of the list and get the results as quick as you can.”

The police department says they hope someone is listening because bites and scratches aren’t uncommon in their field. They hope legislation is amended for all first responders who put their lives second to the lives of others.

Robinson will likely go to trial in early 2018.
