MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A man was charged with second-degree murder after a deadly shooting early Saturday morning in South Memphis, according to the Memphis Police Department (MPD).
Officers responded just after 4:30 a.m. to a shooting call on Rayner Street and found a woman had been shot and a man with a stab wound to his left hand, according to an arrest affidavit.
They were both rushed to Regional One Health, police said.
The woman was in critical condition, and the man was listed as non-critical.
Just after 1:30 p.m. Saturday, police said the woman had died.
On Saturday night, police identified the woman killed as 32-year-old Jasmine Eason and said the man was identified as Kordelro Harris.
Harris, 36, was charged in the shooting, records show.
According to records, Harris told investigators that two men wearing ski masks and armed with guns and a knife kicked in his bedroom door and demanded money. Harris told police that one of the men stabbed him, and the other man shot his girlfriend.
The Memphis Fire Department rushed Eason and Harris to the hospital, where Eason later died, records show.
MPD said Eason and Harris were a couple living together.
Records show that police also found four children — ages 17, 9, 6, and 2 — inside the home.
Records show that three of the children were Eason’s kids.
Three of the children, including the 17-year-old, told investigators that they believed Harris lied about his version of what led to the shooting, according to court documents.
Records indicate that a 9mm handgun covered in blood and several spent shell casings were found at the home on Rayner. The gun, court documents allege, was stolen during a car burglary in December 2021.
Police also found a stolen rifle along with marijuana and cocaine at the home, records show.
Harris was treated for his injuries and then questioned, records show.
According to court documents, investigators confronted Harris with evidence that allegedly contradicted the story he told earlier about what led to the shooting.
Harris changed his narrative and told investigators that he was arguing with Eason when she grabbed a knife and stabbed him in the hand, records show.
According to court documents, Harris admitted that he became angry and shot Eason while she was running away from him.
Harris was charged with second-degree murder, aggravated assault, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, two counts of theft of property, and possessing a firearm during a commission/attempt to commit a dangerous felony, records show.
Records show that Harris is set to appear in court at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12.
