A depraved New Jersey substitute teacher charged with having sex with a 14-year-old pupil was busted when her own children had a heated confrontation with her about the long-running abuse, according to a criminal complaint
Jersey City teacher Elyse Castillo, 45, allegedly had sex with the student over a 15-month period — not telling him she had a venereal disease, according to the documents.
Her own children, ages 13 and 14, had a fiery confrontation with her last month because they were disgusted by “her relationship with a minor,” the complaint says.
The showdown was so bad, the children’s father called child protection services, claiming Castillo had abused them during the altercation — sparking the police investigation into the sex claims, the report says.
The alleged victim was interviewed and told investigators he met Castillo when he was in sixth grade in 2018 and that they were in a relationship and “would make love,” the complaint says.
The teen said they performed numerous sex acts on “multiple occasions” at Castillo’s home on Pavonia Avenue in Jersey City, the papers state. TOP ARTICLES2/5READ MOREPremature babies reunited with caregivers atemotional event
The charges say the abuse began in June 2018 and went on until last month.
Castillo was arrested without incident Aug. 29 and hit with a slew of charges, including aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office said.
She also was charged with having sex while she had a venereal disease — herpes — without the informed consent of the alleged victim, the charge documents say.
Castillo hung her head to hide her face when she appeared for a detention hearing Thursday, according to NJ.com. The court was told that Castillo had confessed and faces 10 to 20 years in prison if convicted, according to the report.
Prosecutors had wanted her detained, but Judge Paul DePascale ordered her released, barring her from having contact with any juveniles apart from her own children, according to the report.
