Obituary for Mr. DeVon Straham
STRAHAM, Mr. DeVon – Age 48, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at his residence.
Family hour 10:00 AM Friday, March 27, 2020 at Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church, G-6415 N. Clio Rd., Mt. Morris, MI, with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Pastor Wallace Hill III, officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Mr. Straham will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM Thursday.
Mr. DeVon “Uncle Bebon” Straham passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at the age of 48. DeVon was born October 2, 1971 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Leonard Byrd and Andrea (Straham) Darrough. He graduated from Flint Central High School, “Class of 1989.” DeVon joined the United States Military Armed Special Forces branch of the Army. He was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg, NC. DeVon was humbled by his visit and experience in Egypt. He was Honorably Discharged in 1993. DeVon was extremely smart! He was an avid reader. DeVon obtained his Bachelor Degree in History from the University of Michigan-Flint. He was employed by the Flint Community Schools. DeVon loved to teach History & Geography. He coached various football teams throughout the city. DeVon was an extreme football fanatic! Football was his first love. He was a great teacher, coach and mentor to his students. DeVon was also generous and had a caring heart for the less fortunate. He was a great Philanthropist, often donating to many charities with a concentration to underdeveloped areas in 3rd World Countries. DeVon enjoyed yelling at his TV, watching Jeopardy and Law & Order.
Mr. DeVon “Uncle Bebon” Straham leaves to cherish his memory: sister, Amber (Brian) Johnson; 6 nieces, Kiana, Brianne, Brianca, Micah, Briana and Sadé Johnson; 2 nephews, Brian Jr. and Timothy Johnson, all of Frisco, TX; 2 aunts, Muriel Samuels and Gloria Jones; uncle, Horace (Yvonne) Jones; cousins, Craig and Chevas Samuels, Chaun Dean, Camille Woods, Corey Straham, Benet Veal, Jeran Flynn, Renee Blake, Cassandra Jones, Darius Robertson; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Antwaun “Donnie” Evans, Leonard Blake, Frank Blake, Lamar Callico, Perry Burks, Donald Johnson and Chinua McGee.
Mr. Straham was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Byrd and Andrea (Straham) Darrough; step-father, Curtis Darrough Jr.; grandparents, George and Gladys Straham; brother, Curtis Darrough III; aunt, Earline (Darrough) White.
The family would like to express special thanks to Abdullah Raffee MD, DaVita Dialysis and all family and friends that gave their time to care for him during his illness. In recognition to his beloved aunts, Muriel and Gloria who cared for him.
