INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A woman has been arrested for her alleged involvement in a triple shooting that killed a man and his infant nephew Saturday.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department says they have arrested 36-year-old Ivory Smith.

Just after 1:30 p.m. Saturday, officers with IMPD were called to a home in the 2300 block of N. Guilford Avenue in response to a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found three people shot inside the residence. Indianapolis EMS responded, and despite the best life-saving efforts, a 37-year-old man and his 3-month-old nephew were pronounced dead at the scene. A third person was taken to an area hospital in stable condition.

Neighbors told FOX59 they saw Smith within minutes of the shooting in handcuffs in the back of an IMPD patrol car.

A review of criminal court records indicates that Smith had used the address as far back as 2011 during a battery and resisting law enforcement arrest.

Police said Smith was the girlfriend of the 37-year-old man who was killed. He was the uncle of the three-month-old boy who died and the son of the 62-year-old woman who was wounded.

Residents said they had spotted Smith outside the house before and had never seen police cars at the residence.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the dead once proper next-of-kin notification are made.

With two double murders reported within two days, IMPD’s homicide total for this year has reached 102.

A year ago on this date, there had been 110 homicides in Indianapolis as the city was on its way to setting a new record for murder.

“And I ask the question of why, why did this happen, what’s going on?” said community resident Shemmell Harrison. “If you have to fight, fight to live another day with your fists. Fight to live another day with your fists. We want to say no don’t fight, don’t fight, don’t fight. But if fighting could come back and we could say that, fight with your fist so you would be able to go home with some scars and a black eye.”
