Miami-Dade police say they arrested a 22-year-old man who gunned down a 19-year-old man last week in what the suspect says was a robbery-turned-murder.

The loot 22-year-old Ed Lamarre told police he planned to steal: less than $90 worth of marijuana.

Lamarre is being held without bond at Miami-Dade’s Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, charged with second-degree murder in Brian Brown’s shooting death June 14.

It was widely reported that Brown, a fullback and defensive tackle for North Miami Beach High’s football team, had a scholarship to play junior college ball at California’s Merced College. After Brown was shot, his father told Miami Herald news partner CBS4 that Brown had been meeting with someone to complete a Craigslist sale of video games.

Lamarre and Brown were meeting to complete a sale Wednesday afternoon near Lamarre’s North Miami-Dade home, the arrest report says Lamarre told police. But the item being sold, Lamarre said, was 14 grams of marijuana.

The Miami street value for that amount, which is a roach shy of half an ounce, is $89 on priceofweed.com and $69 on budzu.com for medium quality.

According to the report, Lamarre admitted to police he brought no money because he planned to use his 9mm gun for a full discount when he met Brown around Northeast 177th Street and 10th Avenue. Lamarre got into the back seat of the 2015 Chrysler 200 driven by Brown with his girlfriend in the passenger seat.

Brown passed Lamarre the marijuana. Lamarre shot Brown, then ran from the car. He took the gun, but left the cellphone.

Brown’s girlfriend drove him to Aventura Hospital and Medical Center, where he died after emergency surgery. The report said she identified Lamarre from a photo lineup Monday and he confessed Monday night.
