Woman Arrested For Alleged False 911 Call Resulting In Young Scooter’s Death
Atlanta police have arrested a woman in connection with the death of rapper Young Scooter.
According to a press statement from the department, 31-year-old Demetria Spence was taken into custody on Tuesday (April 1) and charged with transmitting a false public alarm. Spence allegedly made a false 911 call that led law enforcement to the residence where Young Scooter fled and ultimately died of injuries sustained during a police chase.
As per the Fulton County Sheriff’s office inmate database, Spence remains in jail as of Wednesday morning.
In audio released from the 911 call, a woman police believe to be Spence informed the emergency operator that crimes including sex trafficking, drug dealing, and even a shooting had occurred in real-time at an Atlanta residence. Police arrived at the home where the “Jugg King” performer, legal name Kenneth Bailey, happened to be. Upon their arrival, the 39-year-old ran out of a back door.
Young Scooter was pronounced dead on his birthday last week after the shocking ordeal. According to a press statement from the Fulton County medical examiner, the manner of death is listed as an accident, and the cause of death as a “penetrating injury of the right thigh.”
“Mr. Bailey sustained a penetrating injury of his right thigh that created marked blood loss. This injury was not a gunshot wound. Mr. Bailey injured himself on organic (wooden) fencing material and/or woody debris after vaulting at least one fence,” detailed the memo.
The press update announcing Spence’s arrest relayed, “The Atlanta Police Department is aware of inaccurate comments and social media posts regarding the death of Kenneth Bailey. While we understand that many people are saddened by his passing, it is important to recognize that Atlanta police officers neither discharged their firearms nor used any force against Mr. Bailey.”
A statement shared with VIBE on Wednesday morning revealed that the family of Young Scooter is waiting for more information surrounding his death.
“We are completely devastated by the loss of Kenneth ‘Young Scooter’ Bailey and are currently still waiting for more information to understand the circumstance,” detailed the family. “Young Scooter was more than just a Hip-Hop artist; he was a phenomenal father and mentor to a lot of Atlanta youth pursuing both sports and music. Scooter was their advocate and support system. He always encouraged his children and the youth to pursue their dreams no matter what.”
The statement continued, “The family is grateful for the outpouring of support and love from the city and all over the country. At this time, they are requesting privacy and prayers as they grieve and wait for answers.”
