One of the scariest things that any batter can face is a 100 plus fast ball headed towards your face. But as a pitcher, the scariest thing that you face is that same 100 mile an hour fast ball coming right back at yours.
On Wednesday night during a Cincinnati Reds’ Spring training game, Reds’ Pitcher Aroldis Chapman the games hardest thrower faced this nightmare head on. Literally as what can only be described as gut wrenching, a ball of the bat of Salvador Perez that was clocked at 99 mph struck Aroldis Chapman in the face right above the eye.
The pitcher was conscious after being struck in the head as he kicked and flailed around. People who were there said they saw a large pool of blood on the mound and Chapman was taken off the field to a local hospital where he is being closely examined. There is no need to speculate at this time as head injuries are very dangerous so you will never know the full extent of the injury right away. In the past there have been skiiers and other athletes who felt like they were fine to go home only to go home and actually die from head injuries like this. Lets hope they take every precaution to make sure that Aroldis is 100 % healthy! ~T.S.
The Cincinnati Reds’ spring training game against the Kansas City Royals came to an abrupt end in the sixth inning when Aroldis Chapman was struck in the head with a line drive and you will see below that the fan was so shocked at what he witness that he dropped his camera. The game was suspended and not one person complained!!!
