Lizzo provides a brilliant case study in what can happen to those who constantly take the moral high ground

Did Lizzo, the proudly plus-sized rap star, fat shame her own dancers? That’s the sensational headline doing the rounds in showbiz circles after a lawsuit was filed against the larger-than-life American rapper, her production company, and her “dance captain” Shirlene Quigley. 

According to legal papers filed in a Los Angeles court, three dancers – Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez – are claiming sexual, religious, and racial harassment, discrimination, assault, and false imprisonment after working for the Detroit-born star, whose real name is Melissa Viviane Jefferson. 

Among the allegations is that the dancers were pressured into attending sex shows and were subjected to an “excruciating” audition after being falsely accused that they were drinking on the job. 

Yet, it is Arianna Davis’s claim that she was “fat-shamed” while on tour that is likely to be the most damaging to Lizzo, who has built a brand around essentially being a fat feminist. 

The singer has denied the allegations, which have not yet been tested in court. 

This is a brilliant case study in what can happen to people who constantly go for woke. 

Nobody knows whether the allegations against Lizzo are true or not, but what’s certain is they would not have received half as much attention if she had not been the self-appointed pin-up girl for the “body positivity” movement. 

And this is the problem with flying too close to the virtue-signaling sun. Constantly taking the moral high ground means that if you fall, it’s a long drop back to earth, among the rest of us mere mortals. 

Whatever the outcome in court, let’s hope this episode serves as a wake-up call for all those “progressives” who believe they can never be accused – honestly or otherwise – of not practicing what they preach.
