Today I was walking around the city of Washington DC and I decided, why not walk around the hood and just see the living conditions. I cant lie but I was lonely because this was yet another fathers day that I would not only be spending without my daughter but with out anyone at all this year.
I got up , picked up my camera bag and just started walking when I realized that the neighborhood I was in wasn’t too safe but then when you are from the streets people can see it in your face and you get a pass.
As I walked, I heard a man yell out my name. I turned around and there was a man sitting on a stoop with one of the biggest smiles on his face when he stated “I thought that was you”. I laughed nervously because everytime someone notices who I am I blush but I am just too dark to see it.
I stopped to talk to the brother and he let me know that he wanted me to do just one thing for him. He wanted me to bring to the world the plight of the homeless man expecially the homeless brothers in DC who just want to work but cant find any. I found this ironic because you guys know how I feel about homeless people as well as fathers because well I was both. Here is our encounter captured on video from the gift that I gave him to the meeting where he asked me to do him a favor.
There is nothing more heart warming than helping your fellow man and since I cant be with the people I love on this day I decided to do what I loved which is helping my fellow brother. He asked me for a voice and I promise him I will do it, but what would words comfort this man when we need money to survive? So I took him to the ATM and gave him $300.00 on behalf of #SotoNation. Everything we do echos in the halls of history no matter how large or small.
If any of you know Robert, please tell him I said thank you for making my fathers day better than it was when I woke up! Below is the part of the video where we first met and he asked me to just get the word out about homeless. Im gonna do you one better Robert, you will see in the near future but for now make sure you make the money given multiply to where you can also help someone in need. Its the universal law! This took place in DC at the corner of 7th and Rhode Island!

Tommy 300 bucks is a small fee to pay for public relations – I hope he can be empowered enough to get out of this rut and not become perpetually dependant on hand outs.I once saw the Nas video- Nasty when Nas goes back to his old neighbourhood and starts handing out stuff jackets , watches etc, i dont think that helps an awful lot-as one will require sustainability-rather than wait for the next famous person to give him/her a hand out.Though one should not seek recognition for doing good deeds, in asking those they help to say good things about them to others , it was a good gesture.

Dont let these people take advantage of you. The best thing you could have done teach this man how to find a job and then not tell anyone about it. No one should be GIVING you a job or work, YOU HAVE TO WORK to find a job and work. Why do black people always seem to need someone else to take care of them? Or complain about how people arent helping them? GIVE A MAN A FISH AND YOU FEED HIM FOR A DAY, TEACH A MAN HOW TO FISH AND YOU FEED HIM FOR LIFE.
