Any time there’s Chris Brown drama, you can almost guarantee that there’s a woman involved. The multifaceted singer whose talents continue to be eclipsed by his larger-than-life ego and inability to stay out of trouble is once again in the middle of more controversy. This go-round, it’s because of a controversial lyric involving “good hair” and his exclusive desire for black women with exactly that.

And while most aren’t really surprised, seeing as Brown’s track record with women historically includes those who are racially ambiguous with hair on the wavier, silkier side, his audacity to actually express that in a song is nothing short of baffling. But Twitter isn’t letting him off the hook, and black women seem to be fed up.

On June 28, Chris Brown released his ninth studio album, Indigo.

So, I’ve been a Chris Brown fan for atleast half of my life. IN HIS RECENT SONG FROM HIS ALBUM (Need A Stack) he said “I only fuck the black bitches with the nice hair” and I just wanted to know, what is nice hair..?1,44610:39 AM – Jun 28, 2019990 people are talking about thisTwitter Ads info and privacy

The ninth song on the album, “Need a Stack” featuring Lil Wayne and Joyner Lucas, is causing quite a bit of controversy.

“So, I’ve been a Chris Brown fan for at least half of my life. IN HIS RECENT SONG FROM HIS ALBUM (Need A Stack) he said ‘I only [redacted] the black [redacted] with the nice hair’ and I just wanted to know, what is nice hair..?” tweeted someone about the rather inflammatory lyric in the song.

But most are wondering why people are so surprised.

Aside from the fact that Chris Brown is unstable, an abuser, and just downright ignorant af, he hasn’t even made music in almost the last decade that would justify you still being a fan of him lmao4410:50 AM – Jul 1, 2019Twitter Ads info and privacy29 people are talking about this

Because let’s be honest, Brown historically hasn’t been a beacon of equality or the uplifting of black women.

“Aside from the fact that Chris Brown is unstable, an abuser, and just downright ignorant af, he hasn’t even made music in almost the last decade that would justify you still being a fan of him lmao,” a critic noted.

Wait.. Chris Brown beats the breaks of a woman and people still support him, now he says something about black women hair and y’all NOW wanna boycott him?16:49 AM – Jul 2, 2019Twitter Ads info and privacySee OG JLYRIC’s other Tweets

Many women who expressed their frustration that people have made excuses for Brown’s behavior for this long say the recent outrage is only from women realizing that the R&B singer simply may not be interested in them sexually.

“Wait.. Chris Brown beats the breaks of a woman and people still support him, now he says something about black women hair and y’all NOW wanna boycott him?” someone asked.

But this is about more than just a song.

The saddest part about colorism and texturism is that the next generation of little black girls is going to have to fight through this nonsense because the black community as a whole refuses to stamp this issue out. #colorism #chrisbrown https://twitter.com/kechikjay/status/1144661576793960454 …YT: KECHI KAYJ @KechiKJaySo, I’ve been a Chris Brown fan for atleast half of my life. So should black women simply accept that this is who Brown is?

Don’t know why ppl surprised about Chris brown & black women. I mean it’s hella obvious. Black women shouldn’t be upset though cause he’s no prize. Looking at his track record with these lookalikes he’s gonna be lonely & single forever. As teambreezy says “that’s his preference”156:39 AM – Jul 1, 2019See lil bit**’s other TweetsTwitter Ads info and privacy

This behavior isn’t anything new. In fact, it’s the type of thing that has come to be expected.

“Don’t know why ppl surprised about Chris brown & black women. I mean it’s hella obvious. Black women shouldn’t be upset though cause he’s no prize. Looking at his track record with these lookalikes he’s gonna be lonely & single forever. As teambreezy says ‘that’s his preference,'” someone noted.

And Brown’s responses to the backlash didn’t make things any better.

Rather than clarifying or even apologizing for his lyric, he went on an Instagram comment rant describing anyone who found problem with the lyrics as “angry.”

“Weird [redacted] angry people….. Im start giving away free lace fronts for all you females wit the skid row edges and low self-esteem,” he commented under a page’s post about him not liking dark-skinned women.

He chalked it all up to preferences.

And he compared his desire of women with “good hair” to women preferring a man with nice teeth.

If there’s anything we’ve learned, Brown will eternally do and say exactly what he wants, when he wants, how he wants — even if that means offending and disrespecting women of his own race in the process.
