It’s a heartbreaking reality for the family of Tyrese Garvin who was shot Sunday night on Roselane Street in Smoketown.

Garvin’s loved ones comforted each other in their darkest moments outside of University Hospital where the 20-year-old remains on life support.

“He was very excited about becoming a father, and for something like this to happen and his children will never get to know him, that’s sad!,” Garvin’s grandmother said.

Officials say Garvin was shot in a random act of violence while he was walking home. Earlier that day he went to the hospital to see his newborn twins.

Louisville police referenced the shooting in a recent press conference when they shared new details about the past two weekends filled with gun violence. The city has seen 20 shootings during that time, with five of them being fatal.

“Many of the recent non-fatal shootings and homicides in Louisville have been drive-by,” Lieutenant Mckinely said.

Three juveniles were arrested in Garvin’s case. His family plans to take him off life support in coming days.
