Pensacola women sentenced to state prison in fatal shooting over $60 of marijuana

Shauntareeya Jones

Two Pensacola women have been sentenced to state prison for their roles in a 2018 fatal shooting over $60 worth of marijuana.

Shauntareeya Jones, 22, and Shalen Yeldon, 23, were sentenced by Circuit Judge Joel Boles for the June 20, 2018, shooting death of Jaquan Berry, according to a news release from State Attorney Bill Eddins.

Jones was sentenced to 15 years in state prison for manslaughter with a weapon. Yeldon was sentenced to four years in state prison for accessory after the fact to second-degree murder.

According to prosecutors, Yeldon contacted Berry over social media to buy marijuana.

When they met at the intersection of Edison and Trenton drives, she and Jones tried to pay Berry for the drugs with a counterfeited $100 bill. When Berry realized the money was fake, he tried to get his drugs back, and a struggle ensued.

During that struggle, Jones shot Berry four times in the upper chest, according to prosecutors. Yeldon and a third co-defendant, Deon Nettles, helped to clean blood and shell casing.

Berry was later pronounced deceased at the scene.

Nettles, 29, was sentenced to eight years state prison
