I enjoyed the conversation, but I’m a little confused by some of Tommy’s responses to some of the things she was saying. When she spoke about her ex-boyfriend wanting her the “straighten” her hair, Tommy kept saying, “So he wanted you to go back to your weave.” He wasn’t saying that he liked the weave better; he was saying that he liked her hair straight. Obviously, there are a lot of ways to straighten black women’s hair to include relaxers, flat irons, curling irons, blow dryers, etc. So, there are plenty of ways to get the look of a weave without getting a weave, but it takes a lot of work. Tommy’s perspective appears that it suggests for women to go from weave to kinky hairstyles, but there are other options to still get the straight look women want without putting in weave. Personally, as long as a black woman is wearing her own hair and she’s well groomed, I love it! I hate weaves; they’re the devil.
